When
given the chance to come up with our own topic for the first video projects, I
immediately knew what I had wanted to do. As incoming freshman, everyone has to
make the choice whether or not they want to live on campus. That is why I
picked my topic to be commuting versus residence life. I think my video will be
helpful and informative with this because it can give new people an idea on
exactly what they would be dealing with. Not only that, but it also allows a
student to hear opinions of others who are, or were, in a similar situation as
they are. I plan on asking the students and staff what they believe are the
positive and negative aspects of commuting, or living on campus, the benefits
or downsides to it, and to name something they believe Southern can do to
improve the experience of a resident, or commuter. I hope to keep the video
interesting by interviewing a range of students (age, gender, personality), and
to also try to keep an almost equal balance between the amount of commuters
interviewed versus residents. I am also trying to incorporate music (iMovie is
confusing!). Also, I have been working on ensuring that the sound works at a
proper volume, the video is clear and easy to watch and the words are on screen
long enough to read. All of these aspects will come together to help create a
good video. All the questions being answered in this video will be helpful to
first year students in my opinion, because it gives them insight into something
they don’t really have access to. They will not understand fully until they
experience it themselves, but hopefully my video will help Overall, I’m excited
to continue working on my project and I hope everyone enjoys the final outcome!
