When told that one of the topics for this week’s blog was to
tell a story of something hard that you have had to overcome, something
immediately came to mind. Everybody has a person(s) in their life that can be
described as their “rock”. (You know- those people who are always there for
you, support you, and overall just make you happy). Well for me, those people
were my grandparents. My grandparents have always been there for me growing up,
and still are to this day. Eight years ago, my grandparents decided that they
wanted to retire and move to Florida. As a kid, it was hard losing people who
were always up the street from you. I believe this experience has helped to
shape me into the person I am today. Not only did it help to make me
independent as I was beginning a new chapter in my life (being a teen!) but it
followed me into my next chapter: college. When entering SCSU I had to
stand-alone. I could no longer depend on my parents, or old friends because in
reality they aren’t here with me. My grandparents have continued to support me
throughout the years, whether it is with help buying my first car, or advice
when stressed out at my job. Even though our communications have moved on to
new things like Facebook, nothing has changed between us. You see, I think
change is good, and for a lot of us college is a huge change, and will continue
to change. No matter where people may go in your life, they may never be too
far. Now I get to visit them in Florida every year, which means Disney ! Just
remember, things are going to change whether you want them to or not. You just
have to take it as it come and roll with the punches.Thursday, September 6, 2012
A shoulder to cry on
