ProcrastinatingProblems.mov

Well guys, here it is. The embarrassing video numero 3. Although this is not the worst product I could have come up with, it is definitely not the best. I decided to do it on procrastination. While this may not be the most original topic, it is certainly the one I had the most experience talking about. (I’ve been a loyal procrastinator for as long as I can remember). I think that the tips I provided for the viewers are very do-able. They are things that everyone can manage to at least try. I have found them to be very effective. I'm a little aggravated because it was over the 5 minute minimum requirement. I took out one clip and without realizing, it put me below leaving me to lose points. Other than that, I believe that it could have been a tad more entertaining. I tried to break up the clips of me talking with some pictures or text slides, but there was only so much that I could think to do. I also think it would have been better if I was able to get other people to be in it, but unfortunately with busy schedules and not living on campus, I found it to be just a little too complicated. Other than that, I believe that I submitted a mediocre movie. It was nothing special but did meet most requirements. I explained recourses that southern offered such as the library, the study lounges, or places to go for help like the math or writing center. Hopefully someone will be able to take something out of watching this video. Like I said, not the best, but of course, not the worst.

The Creative Habit

After finishing up Twyla’s book, I think that I gained a lot more from it than I thought I would. Originally I didn’t think that a book could really make you come to a realization in your own life, and that those are things that just come to you, but Twyla Tharp’s book really did just that. I think that it went beyond just the idea of discussing what “creativity is”, because there really is no one explanation for it.

The book allowed a person to dig deep into their inner thoughts and ideas to pull the creativity out of them. Its as if creativity is not something learned, its something that everyone has but not everyone uses. I think creativity is very hard to define because it can differ for every person. It’s partially the process of developing new ideas, mixed with a little bit of previous ideas and some personal touch added to it.

Creativity is going to be that factor that makes a person stick out, which is why it is important to teach. I think that when you’re trying to get a job, they are going to look for the person who did something different, or who’s motives in what they did had meaning behind them. So it can impact a person socially by the person’s attention they grab. When thinking of creativity on a personal matter, it works the same way.

A person will feel like they have reached an even greater goal when they do it in a creative process. So you see, there is a lot that goes into being “creative”. The book really did a good job at making a person realize this, and giving structure on how they should go about finding, and maintaining their own creative habit.

Library Fun

This week for INQ we all headed off to the library. I often go to the library just for a quiet place to do work, or to print something. I hadn’t yet gone to actually look for a book. Our librarian guide’s name was Wendy, she was super nice and knew exactly what she was talking about. We were given a paper to fill out which forced us to use the various parts of the library’s website and to go on our own to look for books.
I think it was a very good idea, but they should have given us a little bit of a better idea of how the website works, rather than just throwing us in and making us search and waste our time trying to figure it out. I thought the most fun part of the whole class was when we got to go and search for our books. It allowed the student to get out and for many of us it was our first time doing this. Wendy was very helpful.
If you needed assistance she could easily point you in the right direction. I think that the trip to the library was overall very, very helpful to me as a student. It showed me how to use many of the resources that I was unaware Southern even had. I am glad that I learned how to look up articles, journals, use our database, find books, and even where to go just to check a book out or pick one up. Southern has such a huge database of information it seems impossible for them to not have what you are looking for, you just have to learn to filter your search to the basics. I think the trip to the library on Tuesday was very helpful to all the students.

hola

For this week’s safari (technically last week’s due to the storm) I went to a teacher during office hours. I went to visit my Spanish teacher because I was curious about my grade, and work that was due. I was curious about how his grading worked, where I stood, and what I need to do next. I’ll be honest; I tend to not do a lot of my Spanish work for some reason. It never really comes off as a priority to me. My teacher told me that I will be fine as long as I continue to do our weekly assignments, and try to make up the ones that I missed, as well as try to do my best on the tests. I think it went well, and certainly wasn’t as awkward as I thought it’d be!

Twyla Tharp

So far, when reading the Twyla Tharp book, I have found it very interesting. I really love how the author makes a connection with my reader by using a very informal type of speech. She also is creative when it comes to the print itself, for there are different colors, text fonts, and text sizes. I find it really interesting how she can know so much about being creative, but at the same time she can relate it back to each reader individually. Twyla makes it personal by sharing her own story, but in a way I personally as a reader relate. Maybe not in the sense of being a famous choreographer, but I know what it’s like to put effort into something that you dream about, and slowly making it a lifestyle for yourself. I really liked when the book had a list of questions for you to answer to go back to the first time that you can remember being creative. That part of the book really made me think. For some people, it is really hard to decide when their creativity first came to be. I know when I took that mini quiz, I couldn’t get past the first question! Did art class in school count? Maybe I was a super creative child at home, and I was just too young to remember. Overall, I am really enjoying the book so far. I like the interesting format and voice it was given, and I am excited to continue reading on.
