This week I had the opportunity to attend the 2012 new
student convocation and introductory ceremony. To be honest, at first I was not
looking forward to it at all. I assumed we would be sitting through an hour of
speeches that would repeat the same thing I’ve heard all month. (How happy they
are we are here at SCSU!) Anyways, the ceremony wasn’t just that. It started
with the procession. They had freshman students just like myself onstage to
light candles which would signify different aspects we should try to involve
while attending Southern. We listened to the Alma Mater song sang beautifully
by a student as well. Over all, it was an interesting experience. I don’t feel
as I wasted my time there but instead witnessed a once and a lifetime moment.
We will only be freshman once! Plus, it’s a little more fun when you
accidentally sit near the goofballs of the place.
