Time Trouble

One topic that I have found to be constantly reoccurring in my classes is time management. I think it’s safe to say, most new college students struggle with this issue. Personally, I believe that young adults need to have a perfect balance between school/work and a social life. We all know that kid, who spent his high school years studying, but in the end did they really get the full high school experience, or did they just lose it in the books? When reading the blog “Becoming a Deep Thinker” the author tells the reader that you should actually DOUBLE the time needed to do work, and leave that free. When discussing this in class, I found myself a little weary of this idea. It’s one thing to make sure you do your work, but double?! That seems like a little too much. But is it? Should you push aside the ideas of only being this young once, and instead focus on the future? It all depends on the person I guess. We also read and discussed in class the 10,000 hour theory. How by putting 10,000 hours into something you can master that skill. I think if you’re passionate enough you won’t have to leave time to work on something because to you it isn’t considered to be work. Perhaps that skill is what you do to relax at the end of the day. Time management is tough especially for kids who have a lot on their plate. Between work, school, sports, family, and friends is there even free time? Every person needs to find their personal balance- a place where they feel comfortable with how much work is getting done, how much they can go out, and maybe even leave some free time to do that so called relaxing.
