H20

For this weeks blog I decided to talk about the large sculpture on campus that seems to go unnoticed. The sculpture is called “H2O: Liquid Zone”. It was created by Mikyoung Kim. The sculpture is massive spanning the sidewalk between Engleman Hall and Morill Hall.  It is an entirely silver colored sculpture that is composed of multiple large wave like parts. To me, this is exactly what I had thought of when I first saw it during orientation weekend. To my surprise, I may have been right. (Based on the title at least).
I mean, everyone can have a different interpretation of it though. I believe that it represents the ability to just go with the flow, or “to ride the wave”. I believe in college, or any part of life this is a key factor to have. I’d like to think it’s the type of person I am. Wherever life takes you is usually where you should end up. I believe when creating this sculpture the artist wanted people to make it their own. I love the size of it, the massive piece is truly something to gaze at as you stroll by.
The only think I don’t like is the location. Not many students walk by it that often, usually they’re found cutting through Engleman to stay out of the cold air or rain. (Guilty!) I noticed when doing this assignment there aren’t very many scuptures or things in the middle of the campus, or academic quad. Other than that, I don’t think there is very much I can say I don’t like about the piece of art.
